I have read this discussion several times, and pondered. It is really stimulating. The consequencialist argument is the only way to go, apparently. Would you rather die from an overdose of morphine today than a year from now from an excruciatingly painful cancer? Which is more ethical/humane/loving?

I am not an epistemologist, or a philosopher, for that matter. I do think, that a problem we have is, that we tend to infer a general rule from a particular circumstance (cf. Abraham/Isaac or Nephi/Laban). The fancy word for it eludes me for the moment (reductionism? – I don’t use that jargon much).

I think we have to accept some incoherence or uncertainty in reality. Everything we know about nature and physics so far, tells us this same thing. There is no One Rule to rule them all, and we have to use our judgment for the best result we can think of.

Sorry for trying to simplify this too much…

Seriously, don’t waste your time sweating it all — Dave is right. WordPress.com has templates that look a lot better than your current, with lots customization possibilities. It’s your cheapest and easiest option at this point.

Yeah, I remember a few years ago sweating through HTML, CSS, and do-it-yourself script widgets trying to make a nice site. Now the off-the-shelf themes and templates look much sharper. And for LDS blogs, graphical self-reliance is a virtue.

You can also get premium WordPress themes for $25-$70 a pop, then hire a graphic designer to do a nice header or something for you. That would keep your costs low but give you much more functionality for the cost than if you had the theme custom-built.

Why bother? Just switch themes within wordpress.com and sign up for a custom domain. waaaaaay cheaper, and super-easier for you because you won’t have to migrate sites. You can still get a pretty decent looking site – some of those preset themes are nifty. That’s where BCC is now.
